It’s amazing how the more different you are can sometimes mean the more fuel you have to inject electronic music with originality. Andrea Viscardi aka Lqd Hrmny isn’t a producer who spent his whole living consuming electronic music. It wasn’t until later in life that electronic music presented itself to Andrea, but it was then that his history of studying music theory, playing classical piano and drums would come in extremely handy as a differentiating tool that makes him stand out musically. Lqd Hrmny combines his past skills with modern electronic music, creating a world of sound that’s chill, relaxing, super-catchy, and all it’s own.
Lqd Hrmny lay’s it all out in this RaverRafting exclusive interview below.
There’s elements of a lot of styles that are in here. Who are your influences?
I’ve always been into keys from a young age and actually studied classical piano. Once the electronic world smacked me, LA’s Nosaj Thing made an instant impact. His unique deep but chill vibes attracted me to the style which I’ve added my own touch. The guy just continues to innovate in the best way.
How did you first get into electronic music and when did you first produce?
While I was studying, some homies introduced Nosaj to me. After seeing him live back in 2011 there was no turning back. Music composition and production was always part of my life so the studio attracted me before the turntables. I’ve been lucky enough to have access to top gear and great studio settings.
How does it feel to get on Mr Suicide Sheep?
I’m so thankful that Sheepy has supported my tunes more than once throughout my time on the Lqd project. He and the crew have revolutionized the game and helped break loads of dope artists. It’s refreshing to see outlets like MSS fit into the modern day dance media model, they don’t threaten tastemaker blogs and deliver a consistent catalog of hits.
How has electronic music evolved, from your view, in the last 2 years?
I’m stoked to see the pop-friendly vocal phase over the past years in every scene. Underground foundations have seeped in, blending with commercial sounds to really end genre segmentations. I really feel like dance music is just dance music plain and simple. I appreciate that the politics and trend barriers are being broken down as bedroom producers make it to the radio.
What is the best setting for listeners to enjoy your music?
Pack a speaker and some of your best friends, head out into nature, close your eyes and get lost in the melody. Music is a trip that everyone experiences differently, I’d like to see my sounds taken anywhere and everywhere. Just get out there and see the world, I’ll provide the soundtrack.
If you aren’t focusing on music you are…?
Even though I’ve grown up in Italy, I’m a massive fan of American Football. You can find me late on Autumn nights huddled over a sketchy NFL stream. Go Seahawks!
Who is your dream collaborator and are you collaborating with anyone soon?
Well I’d obviously love to collaborate with my major influence Nosaj Thing. Until then I’ve been super excited to work with some amazing artists. German vocalist Krue sang for my recent release on Kitsune. Now she’s back for the title track on my Summer Lost EP and I’m over the moon. I can’t wait to share this one, it’s big!
