Recently, we chatted with rising DJ and producer Luca Schreiner to see what inspires him to work in music, what his biggest wishes are and what he’s got in store for the remainder of 2018. Before we kick things off, here’s a few things you must know about Luca: Germany-born, the 23-year-old DJ has been around for four years, gaining attention with his remixes OMI, Louis Tomlinson, Alessia Cara, James Arthur, Matoma, Shaggy, Pitbull and many more. But his debut single, “Missing,” out on Ultra Music is what really changed the game. Besides Luca’s successful productions he also played at some of the biggest festivals & clubs in the world like the World Club Dome and Marquee New York, next to artists like Oliver Heldens and Don Diablo. Now that we’ve sparked your curiosity, read below for the full interview and keep an eye out on this promising artist!
RR: To kick things off, tell us about your background and what attracted you to music.
LS: My dad is the owner of a music distribution company that especially distributes electronic kind of music. So I was always in touch with that particular genre. I then started producing my own kind of music when I was sixteen, inspired by the great successes that Tiesto had at that time.
RR: Did you always know you wanted to be in music or did you have other plans as you were growing up?
LS: I remember saying to my parents that I want to become a pizza chef when I grow up, since I absolutely loved pizza and still love to eat every now and then 🙂 I mean from my dad’s background I already knew that I wanted to do something in music, but never actually thought that I’d become a DJ & producer since I’m also not even musically trained.
RR: What puts you into the creative mindset to start producing a song/remix?
LS: I do listen to a lot of radio music, so whenever a new song comes on the radio I have this habit of analyzing a song in its structure and arrangement. This process is super inspiring for me, to see & understand other producers perspectives on production.
RR: What would be your dream label to release on?
LS: I was lucky to already had releases on really big labels such as DefJam, Armada, Ultra, Sony and many more. I think in today’s business it’s no matter how big a label is anymore if a label supports the artist in the right way and as best as they possibly can, that’s all you need.
RR: You recently remixed Kelly Clarkson’s “I Don’t Think About You” via Atlantic! What was the inspiration behind this one?
LS: I was actually doing another remix for Atlantic Records when the A&R told me that he also needs a great remix for Kelly Clarkson. I was directly down to do a version of it, even though the original is really slow and more of a ballad, which makes it harder to remix.
RR: Which artists or labels have had the most impact on your music?
LS: I would say that artists such as Felix Jaehn, Cheat Codes, and The Chainsmokers had the biggest impact on my music. I’m huge fans of their work and would love together on something hopefully in the future!
RR: What are your plans for 2018?
LS: I will be releasing more original music! I think that’s what was missing in the past. I’ve been in the studio lately and have a lot of original tunes prepared for a release. I’ll also play some amazing shows at the World Club Cruise and Ferdinands Feld which I’m super excited about!
