Lucas Estrada is one name that has been making some serious waves around the electronic music scene lately, having gained massive traction on platforms like Spotify with over 2.7 million monthly listeners. His latest release “2face” with artist Pawl has only kept his momentum up as the infectious pop/house tune is highly addictive and sticks in your head from the moment you hit play. We recently sat down with this talent to find out how he broke into the industry, his label, advice for producers, and more. Check out our exclusive interview below!
RR: What would you say was your path as a young solo artist to get where you are now?
LE: I have been making music for the last 14 years, and even though my only listeners the first 11 years was my family and closest friends, I loved exploring new sounds and evolving my skills as a producer always chasing the perfect sound. Nobody wanted to release my music at first, so I did it all by myself. I uploaded the tracks, got a hundred streams a day, and contacted a bunch of gatekeepers and tastemakers each day – and it paid off!! My streams increased. Suddenly everything was going quite well! So I signed an artist deal with One Seven Music to get assistance to take this to the next level. Besides my own music, I love promoting good music, so I also started my own label and playlist-universe, LoudKult in 2018.
RR: Can you share more about One Seven Music and a new label with Sony?
LE: One Seven Music is a great indie label with the best staff and I can tell that we’re working on some really exciting things at the moment!
RR: What message or feeling do you hope people receive after listening to your PAWL collaboration “2Face?”
LE: “2face” is about being true to yourself. No matter who you are around, you must be proud of who you are.
RR: If you could give advice to yourself when you were first starting out, what would it be?
LE: Believe in myself sooner! When I first started making music, I never saw music as a viable career, cause I didn’t think I was good enough. Music was always a hobby for me, and it wasn’t before I received my first check for my music, I had the courage to quit my job.
RR: How many more releases in 2019 can you promise?
LE: I believe in consistency, so I will release at least 6 more songs this year. I have so much music I can’t wait to share.
RR: What elements do you look for in the people you work with?
LE: Uniqueness. I always want to work with different people that work in different genres. The chemistry between 2 (different) musicians is what can create something beautiful. Making music with different people and trying to make unique sounds is something I always strive for.
RR: What’s your favorite part of your music lifestyle at this moment?
LE: I used to work a 9 – 5 job. With timed breaks and timed lunches and timed everything. Now I get to work when I want and how much I want. I actually think I work a lot more now, but it’s quite more fun.
