Baltimore always seemed to get skipped on Mad Decent’s Block Party, but not this year. Out of all the different lineups it may be the best one, while also at one of the best venues in the country (I’m biased).
Why are we excited?
It starts with the headliners; Major Lazer and Zeds Dead. The dance floor will be non-stop throughout these performances, even challenging to make it through all them all without a break.
Major Lazer chooses to engage with the audience throughout their set; shirts off, people on the ground, a lot of self expression and bubble butt popping. Diplo will also squash your face as he pulls his best Wayne Coyne impression rolling around in a giant inflatable bubble. Basically if you don’t like Major Lazer live, you don’t like fun.
Zeds Dead is reason enough to go MDBP. DC and Hooks have evolved their live sets recently, choosing to defy genres by mixing in trap, dubstep, hip hop and anything else they want. In the Summer Mix that just dropped, Weezer makes an appearance three quarters of the way through. What do they have in-store for us at the Block Party? Who knows.
It’s not all going to be dubstep, trap and moombahton though. There will also be a DJ set by SBTRKT, the musical project lead by Aaron Jerome, that will focus on deeper electronic sounds. It’s going to be a welcome contrast to the likes of Flosstradamus, Skream, GRiZ and the other artists on the lineup.
The X-Factor
Riff Raff will be singing, rapping, dancing…? I don’t know for a set. I’m not sure what to expect from JODYHiGHROLLER or how the crowd will react. Definitely worth checking out if not just for the wow factor alone.
Tickets to Mad Decent Block Party are on sale now through Ticketfly with VIP getting you early access, meet and greets and a laminate that you can hang with the rest of your festival treasures.
