Who doesn’t love a good documentary? I am a sucker for all things crime, mystery, and my personal favorite music. On November 17 through Apple Music, a documentary will be released about our favorite supergroup, Major Lazer.
Give Me Future is centered around the Havana, Cuba concert that drew in 400,000 people. Austin Peters who directed the film jumped at the chance to document the historic concert. In case you did not know the Major Lazer concert was the first performance by an American artist since diplomatic ties with the U.S. were restored.
Not only does the film document the concert, but also follows Major Lazer as they meet local youth in Havana and dive into the subculture of the Havana music scene. The release of the movie was paired with the release of an album from Major Lazer that is inspired by the events of the documentary. The album has features from Herizen Guardiola, Valentino Khan, and Sean Paul celebrating the cross-cultural collaboration which is the foundation upon which Major Lazer was built. Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire the three pillars that make up Major Lazer have topped worldwide charts, and it is no surprise that they are able to break cultural boundaries with the help of their music.
Diplo had this to say about the documentary:
Major Lazer’s time in Havana was one of the most important and moving experiences of our lives. The people we met and spoke to, the things we saw and the show we played had a profound impact on us, and Austin captured it perfectly. It feels even more impactful to share this with the world in light of current events, and we’re stoked for you to see it.
