Manse, on his real name Michael Hansen, has been in the game for a while now. It all began back when Hardwell played one of his remixes on Hardwell On Air radio show, and Manse hasn’t stopped since. The Swedish DJ has swiftly risen through the ranks to become a label favourite for Revealed and Armada and is back again with original EP “Flashback”. We’ve had the chance to ask the artist a few questions, including how 2017 has been for him, how the EP name was chosen and what’s cooking for next year. Check out Manse’s answers below!
RR: Why “Flashback”?
I felt that the releases of proper Progressive House has been lacking in 2017 in general so I felt that
the meaning of ‘Flashback’ would suit this EP perfectly since the sound of the songs in the EP are
bringing you back to 2014 with a 2017-2018 sound of Progressive House.
RR: Which of the songs on the EP is the most “you”? With which one you connect the most?
I have a bunch of IDs that I’ve been playing a lot in my sets but I decided to choose these 3 songs
because they all reflect my sound very clearly even though they are individually quite different when
it comes to mood and emotion.
For me, my music is a way of therapy (both for me but also other people) where I can express my
feelings in a non-verbal way and focus more on expressing it in music which is an amazing tool for
this. I think ‘See The Light’ would reflect my earlier releases a lot with the energetic emotional
feeling while ‘The Wall’ brings more of a cinematic and more aggressive feeling which is perfect for
festivals and clubs where this kind of sound is working perfect.
RR: You’ve been at some of the biggest festival, including Tomorrowland, Ultra and Creamfields. How was the experience of performing in front of the crowds there?
Its incredible to have been playing at these legendary and huge festivals. I am very privileged to be
able to spread my music across these events where people are open for new kinds of feelings and
music which is incredible. The past 3 years of my career since I debuted on Revealed Recordings
have been incredible and I have an even more interesting journey ahead of me
RR: You’ve also toured in Asia. How was it?
I’ve been across Asia a lot over the past few years, both with Revealed Recordings but also for my
own tours, which I am very happy with because Asia is an amazing place both culturally but also
when it comes to dedication to the EDM music. The followers I have from Asia are very loving, and
very caring about my music and I always get a lot of inspiration when I am over there touring.
RR: Any funny stories from tour?
There is a lot of funny and crazy stories from the different tours but one thing that was quite crazy
was when I was about to do the classic DJ jump down from the DJ booth in a club, but what I didn’t
see was that it was some water on the table next to the players, and slipped with my left foot and
fell down the stage, luckily nothing bad happened, but it makes you more cautious 🙂
RR: What are you planning for next year?
2017 was a year where I wanted to experiment with my branding and sound, which got an amazing
response from my fans. But I felt I got a little bit too far away from my roots and my main passion
which is Progressive House. Next year I am going back to my normal flow of releases since I have a
lot of music in this style that is waiting to be released.
I am also working on new tours in Europe and Asia, where I am starting off in Vietnam and China in
January-February 🙂
RR: Can you describe 2017 in one word?
Fulfilling.
