If you’re in Washington, D.C. this weekend, you like trance, and you’re looking for a wild Saturday night, there’s only one place you should be: Echostage, where German trance maestro Markus Schulz will be taking to the decks as a part of his North American ‘Scream’ tour. The M Machine (Live) and KhoMha will provide opening support.
Khomha is a new name on most radars, but he won’t be for long. Signed recently to Schultz Music Group, Khomha busted into the top 20 on TranceAddict via the strength of singles like ‘Mind Gamer’, ‘The Dark Knight’, and ‘Vapor’. Make sure you get to Echostage early to catch this young gun in action.
From a little-known West Coast trio to OWSLA label protégés, San Francisco’s The M Machine refuse to be pigeonholed. Dubstep? Check. Electro-house? Check. Techno and disco and everything in between? Yep, they’ve got that covered too. With their most recent release, ‘Metropolis, Pt. II’ receiving high praise from critics and fans alike, and recent remixes of artists like Bruno Mars, DatsiK, and Madeon under their belts, this is a live show you’ll kick yourself for missing.
Doing it old school, Schultz – 2012/2013’s ‘America’s Best DJ’ as awarded by DJ Times magazine – has hopped on the tour bus and is going coast-to-coast, bringing his seemingly boundless energy and over two decades of experience to venues across the country. In Schultz’s own words:
“This has been a dream of mine for quite a number of years: the American DJ tour done differently…I’m going to be working overtime, spending every waking moment, day & night making sure this is the most incredible experience you have in a club in 2013.”
A tall order considering the lead-in performance to the tour was a performance at Madison Square Garden – supporting Armin van Buuren’s much-hyped A State of Trance 600: The Expedition stop in New York City under the New World Punx moniker, half Schultz and half Ferry Corsten. Never one to dwell in the afterglow, Schultz embarked on the Scream tour six days later.
Released in August of last year, ‘Scream’ had it all. Vocal trance – ‘Sing Me Back To Life’ featuring Aruna comes to mind – soaring progressive synths – ‘Don’t Leave Before the Sunrise’ and the title track, among others – and one of my favorite tracks of 2012 – the trance/electro romp of ‘Loops and Tings’ featuring non-other than Ferry Corsten.
And while you’re likely to hear plenty of newness, Schultz has about twenty-three years of back catalog to draw on, so nothing’s off-limits. Check out his set from Ultra Music Festival below, and keep tuned to WhiteRaverRafting for a full recap after Saturday’s unicorn-slaying madness.
