What better way to start off a weekend than with a night of house music? Especially when it’s executed by the young creative mind of Martin Garrix. Two Friday’s ago, he made his Echostage debut and gave a performance that DC will not forget. You see, this was my very first time going to see Martin Garrix and being how I had only heard good things about him, I wanted to see firsthand what all the commotion is about. Well it’s safe to say that my expectations were met that night, as the energy in the venue was high from the first moment to the last.
Roberto Gonzales both opened and closed the night with two fantastic sets. He’s the resident DJ for Club Glow and after seeing him a few times, you can just tell that the crowd loves listening to his sets. He knows how to set the tone for the night and as the crowd rapidly made their way into the venue, the up-tempo beats had listeners dancing from the beginning.
Next up was Jay Hardaway, who is joining Martin Garrix on his tour. Opening for one of the most popular electronic artists of the moment is no easy task, and it was clear he rose to the occasion. His energy was incredible as well as his song selection. At this point, Echostage was already packed and the atmosphere was perfect as the venue was booming with big room house and electro. He definitely held his own during his almost 90 minute set and set the vibe for what was yet to come.
At last it was finally time for what everyone had been anticipating the whole night. Martin Garrix made his Echostage debut and gave everyone in that room what they came for and more…he killed it. My expectations were high and even then they were exceeded. From the LED visuals, to the lights, to the good vibes in the room it was amazing. Garrix performed all his familiar hits including “Helicopter” and “Proxy” along with some new tunes including “Don’t Look Down” and his upcoming single with Tiesto titled “The Only Way is Up”. There were so many highlights of the night that it’s hard to just mention one. One of my favorite moments was when Jay Hardaway made his way back to the stage and did a back to back mini-set with Martin.
Garrix’s energy lasted throughout the night and I couldn’t help but sense a level of maturity in his set. Club Glow put on yet another beautiful event and it was a pleasure to be able to experience it. Martin Garrix gave us a real treat that night, and I’m only left with one more question….when is he coming back?
