We announced about a month ago that MartyParty would be releasing his MVP trap album today. Unlike many industry icons, Marty Folb failed to disappoint and remained on schedule. The album as a whole is 16 tracks long and includes a few “drips” that we have heard before including ‘Hood Shaker‘ and ‘Bling Bling‘.
At the suggestion of his manager Daysha, I listened to the album top to bottom. My curiosity was rewarded immediately, as the momentary downtempo hip hop stylings of ‘Back To The Crib‘ looped me into a submissive state hell bent on finishing the work through. Now as I sit here and try to choose my favorite track, the evident realization that this album is reliant on its state as a whole, rather than track by track, becomes extremely clear.
‘MVP’ is the most complete creation of the year for the sub-genre that we all know as “trap music”.
The elements of influence are so much broader than trap. Reaching beyond the limits of your average 808’s, MP infused glitchy purple bass, acid trap, heavy gritty dub and downtempo melodies. For full effect, stream from beginning to end. MVP is a journey album and the only direct correlation I can make to it’s effect would be something similar to a live set from Bassnectar. Carefully cultivated beats. Enjoy.
