Mat Zo is certainly one of the more intriguing artists to follow on Twitter. He frequently provides spontaneous, thought-provoking tweets that are both entertaining and enlightening. A few days ago, he gave a very candid opinion of DJ’ing versus producing:
To anyone that wants to learn how to DJ: its fucking easy

If youre struggling to get perfect mixes heres the trick: +0.80% is +1bpm… -0.75% is -1bpm so +1.60% is +2bpm -1.50% is -2bpm etc

DJing is like having raw sex with a room of people cumming all at the same time

Mixing on a laptop is like wearing a condom

It’s easy to ride a bike but it’s hard to become a BMX rider RT @Mat_Zo_MRSA: To anyone that wants to learn how to DJ: its fucking easy
— Laidback Luke (@LaidbackLuke) December 21, 2013
If DJing is BMXing then producing is flying a spaceship… on fire… through a black hole
— Mat Zo (@Mat_Zo_MRSA) December 21, 2013
Edit: DJing is fucking easy if you really love music

The most intelligent statement was probably Mat’s comparison of DJ’ing to unprotected sex with a room full of people who are orgasming simultaneously.
Jokes aside, he clearly believes producing is in a higher realm of greatness than DJ’ing. Laidback Luke attempted to defend performing live but Mat essentially shut that notion down.
However, Mat ended up backtracking — likely because he left a lot of DJ’s butthurt with his previous statements.
Given such a controversial topic, what do you appreciate more, DJ’ing or producing?
