Ahead of her show at London venue XOYO, Maya Jane Coles released a five track EP entitled Won’t Let You Down, bursting with techno goodness and was showcased at her performance. This is her first multiple track release since 2014 which saw What They Say (The Remixes) gain success; since then, her remixes have sent her flying up the electronic charts and receive high status in her home town London after her much acclaimed performance at new venue Printworks.
Won’t Let You Down epitomises her atmospheric techno sound with the first three tracks: title track ‘Won’t Let You Down’, ‘Round in Circles’ and already predicted to be the most successful, ‘Cherry Bomb’. ‘Won’t Let You Down’ sets the scene with her soothing and repetitive beats, signalling the start of a great 30 minute long extended play. The critic’s favourite ‘Cherry Bomb’ provides a similar flavour to that heard in 2013’s release ‘Comfort’, while ‘Round in Circles’ sends the listeners off into a more lyrical space in preparation for the more upbeat remixes next on the EP.
Polish producers Catz ‘N Dogz’ remix of ‘Won’t Let You Down’ transforms Coles’ track into something more suited for the club and the same goes for Italian techno newcomer Paride Saraceni’s darker and deeper rendition.
