Despite a high volume of masterful productions, Michal Menert has yet to get the love he truly deserves.
For the Colorado native originally from Poland, the effort stretches beyond the studio, beginning with hours sifting through bins of vinyl records while out and about on tour – taking after Pretty Lights Music maestro Derek Vincent Smith himself.
With ‘Eventide’, Menert takes a two-faced approach, something he did wonderfully with ‘Slivers of Light’ earlier this winter. His soulful groove is as evident here as ever before, blending old school samples with dope percussion and smooth electro sounds.
The tide then shifts midway through, kicking back to something much more mellow. The horns, which he claims he found at 3 a.m. on Thursday after weeks of trying, act as the icing on the cake.

After Gramatik jetted in favor of forming his own label ‘Lowtemp’, it’s Menert’s turn to pick up the slack and help carry the load. With releases like this making us all forget that the track was promised in January, that shouldn’t be a daunting task.
