Interviews are amazing ways of getting to know more about your favorite artist. From their favorite color to the inspiration behind their newest track and back, we simply love interviews. Not long ago, we were writing about Wolves By Night’s first EP Close To Me.
To top it off, we teamed up with Dutch producer Mike Mago to create something one of a kind. Mike took over and asked Wolves by Night a set of unique and amusing questions – and here’s what came out. And since we couldn’t let Mike get all the insights, we couldn’t help but throw some of our questions in the game.
Check out the not-so-frequently-asked questions interview with producer Wolves by Night below!
Mike Mago: Your name is Wolves by Night. How many wolves are we talking about here?
Wolves By Night: 30 to 40… maybe 50 I lose count, to be honest
That’s a dangerous amount. Are these Big Bad wolves?
No, they’re all harmless, wouldn’t hurt a fly!
We have doomed the wolf not for what it is, but for what we deliberately and mistakenly perceive it to be – the mythologized epitome of a savage ruthless killer – which is, in reality, no more than a reflected image of yourself. Do you feed on livestock?
Pretty much spot on there haha, hmm depends on how hungry we are
One of the tracks on your amazing EP, which is an absolute gem, is called ‘I Wanna Know’. What exactly do you want to know?
How they get jam inside donuts
Your lead track is called ‘Close To Me’. Do you have fear of commitment?
How did you know!?
How did you learn to sing and can you teach me?
It took a long time singing badly before I got the hang of it… short-term fix for you just buy Melodyne
If I were to ask you to place yourself in a certain imaginary situation in which you would have to describe what choices you would make, would your answer be yes or no?
Maybe yes… maybe no
Would you rather be on a desert island or a dessert island?
Dessert island all day, a sticky toffee island to be specific
If you were to live on a dessert island and you could only pick one album to take with you, which album would that be?
It’s got to be Bon Jovi’s greatest hits
Would you be angry if you didn’t have a device to play it on? Or would you just eat Tiramisu all day?
I’d be devastated, imagine having Bon Jovi’s greatest hits and not being able to play it!?
Can you fill in the blank? Wolves by night, ….. by day
Coyote’s
Bonus questions from RaverRafting:
RR: Tell us a few words about Close To Me. What was the journey behind this EP?
I’ve always been a fan of different genres from Funk, Soul to Alternative Rock so I try to incorporate whatever is inspiring me at the time into my own records and with the Close To Me EP I did just that. I went for a more soulful and chilled out approach as I think my voice suits that style most which is similar to what I did on my first release ‘flirtatious’. Once they were ready to go I sent them straight to Mike Mago who loved them and that was that!
RR: Singing on your own tracks as a producer is uncommon. What inspires you to do so regardless?
I actually started out as a producer like 8 years ago and only started writing and singing on my records a little over a year ago. I didn’t realize I could hold a note or write until I decided to write for my own track because I couldn’t afford to pay for songwriters or singers at the time. I used my vocals just for guides for other singers to re-record but the reception I received from my own voice was of surprise, so I decided to just keep mine on and it’s just gone from there really.
RR: What can we expect to hear from Wolves By Night in the future?
I have another couple EP’s ready to go for early 2018 and then a truckload of tracks following soon after! I’m not a producer that likes to stick to one particular genre, I have a pretty diverse collection building up so I’m looking forward to getting them all out and see what people think!!
