Off the upcoming EP The Flavor from Russia’s Mindex comes an ultra-danceable glitch hop track appropriately titled “Prism Splitter”.
Mindex claims to “channel landscapes from a far off planet”, and he certainly has with transcendental releases like the Teleport EP which came out on Merkaba Music in 2013. The Flavor EP is more rooted in Earth than other Mindex music, channelling landscapes from underground clubs or raves with dance music that is heavy on the glitch while remaining super catchy and melodic.
“Prism Splitter” is a tune guided by a punchy melody and a funky bassline which mesh to create a perfect dance step. The drums are “in the pocket” in drummer’s terms, a confident but simple beat which lays the foundation for the rest of the track. Razor sharp synthesizers swoop into the song as it builds to call and respond with the lead melody. The prism splits, as it were, with the sonic geometry created by Mindex dividing and multiplying with each synth line’s cut.
It makes sense that Mindex’s newest effort will release through Gravitas Recordings, one of the leading labels in bass heavy dance music. With less outer space energy and more of a dance floor theme, “Prism Splitting” channels a sound reminiscent of early music from the Chemical Brothers or Moby, only it’s revitalized with the latest in bass synthesizer production.
The Flavor drops September 1, but you can download “Prism Splitter” now with a preorder of the EP at GravitasRecordings.com and you can catch Mindex dropping this tune and others at A Midsummer Night’s Dream, on August 22 in Philadelphia.
