Odds are you’ve already heard of them, but Minnesota and G Jones are quickly becoming two of the more well respected names in electronic music right now. It’s tough to pinpoint any single genre to label them into (especially Jones), but when you hear their music, it’s clear that you’re listening to something different…which is more than can be said about half the music out there today.
Released off his “Voyager” EP last year, “Thunderdome” was an instant fan favorite. In one fell swoop the song fast-tracked G Jones onto the path he’s enjoying today, and solidified Minnesota as the big time producer he is. It serves as no surprise that this track was chosen to be given the remix treatment, and yesterday fans got to see the roster of artists given the honors for the facelift.
Click play on the EP and you’ll be glad to hear five real different takes on the same track. Buku kicks it off with his instantly recognizable brand of trap, Manic Focus injects some much appreciated groove, and both Tommy Tutone and Resonant Language give their all on it. Our favorite of the bunch though, ill.Gates absolutely destroys it on his take. With some high energy drumstep, Dylan was able to take this track in a completely new direction while still staying true to the original.
Give the EP a listen up top and see what track might be your favorite. Keep an eye out for all these talented dudes at a stop near you, and if you’re in the NY area you can get an up close and personal glimpse of ill.Gates at Webster Hall this Saturday. In regards to Minnesota, all seems to be quiet after just ending the Excision tour, but we guarantee his stop at Electric Forest will be more than worth the wait.
