This past Saturday, NYC was graced with the presence of MK and Duke Dumont for a night that will surely go down as one of Avant Garden’s best. MK, the Detroit born producer and DJ was tearing up the North American festival scene this past summer and will soon be touching down across the Southwestern US. For this special night of house music he was joined by two time Grammy nominated producer, Duke Dumont.
We arrived at Avant Garden right around 11 PM when Liquid Todd was finishing up with some tech-house that got us prepared for option4 who would take the decks at 11:15. Similar to Liquid Todd, option4 entranced us with a set that catered to the tech heads who we knew were in full force at the show. He would set the pace for a packed venue that would welcome MK with vast excitement.
As MK took the stage at 12:15 PM, he began his set with a two minute intro that gave everyone in the building chills. It set the tone for the rest of his set which teleported us into a state of house paradise. He would continue to drop his some of his originals like “Back & Forth”, “There For You”, and his new single, “One Night”. We were also graced with some of his remixes on tracks like Sam Fender’s “Will We Talk?”, and Silk City’s “Electricity”.
As with every MK performance, he ended his set by dropping his massive track “17”. Avant Garden appeared to be on the brink of overload as fans danced and jumped to the massive house tune. It proved to be the perfect ending to an already extraordinary set that got us hyped for Duke Dumont.
As Duke took the stage around 1:45 AM he was met with loud cries of “DUUUUKE” from the crowd. The British born producer chose to open with his hit track “Red Light, Green Light” that got fans stopping and going at a moments’s notice. Duke would go on to drop originals from his EP1 and he even threw in a smooth Will Clarke remix of Phantom’s “Designs For You”.
Differing from MK, Duke’s set was a little more tech-house oriented and fans were drawn into a set that went by all too fast. Duke would end his performance in the perfect manner, dropping “Ocean Drive” to send attendees home with a big smile. Keep and eye out for this duo coming near you, it’s not a show you’ll want to miss.
