We have all had a few days to (unfortunately) go back to reality after Moonrise Festival, but that doesn’t mean Moonrise isn’t still on our minds. One of thoughts that veterans to the 2nd annual festival were thinking was the scale and size that seemed to double in almost every aspect. Let’s take a look
Shade
First thing’s first, shade. Last year was a pretty hot and steamy weekend. This year the weather was more cooperative, but everyone needs some time away from the sun to people watch from. Solar tent is always welcoming but it can get pretty hot as the crowd rolls in. This year we were gifted with not only an improved shaded area, but also a giant inflated teepee next to the Heineken Pyramid to go and chill out under as well.
Stellar Stage
One of two main stages, Stellar was a non-stop adventure last year, and this year. The stage farthest away from the main entrance, but with tons of room for your and your crew to space out and get down. Last year’s headliner’s include Kaskade, Adventure Club, and Bro Safari just to name a few. This year we saw favorites as Dillon Francis, Knife Party, Above & Beyond, Andrew Rayel and many more took to Stellar which had more CO2, bigger visuals, and just an overall elevated experience.
Lunar Stage
And lastly we come to the other main stage, Lunar. As with last year, Lunar had the entire North end of the infield of Pimlico to itself. We space for shufflers, hoopers, glovers, and in the afternoon lots of green to chill out and catch some rays, it was our favorite stage. Lunar was a great mix of everything from the jam bands STS9 and Papadosio, to the dirty side of EDM with Paper Diamond & EOTO last year, along with crushing the final night with bass God Bassnectar. And this year was no different. Jammers The Floozies and Big Gigantic were there to represent, along with huge newcomers The M Machine, Die Antwoord, & Porter Robinson. And although Bassnectar didn’t close out the festival, his performance closing out Saturday night was just plain awesome.
And last but not least, let’s not forget that Bassnectar was asked to curate a stage for next year.
Let us all hope and pray for the next 11 months and three weeks that this will come true. We’ll keep you posted!
