As we approach the birth of Baltimore’s newest festival, Moonrise Festival, veterans of festivals past are both excited and mournful. On the one hand, dance music fans in the DC area know that with each passing year Steez Pomo events become bigger and more robust as they seek to outdo themselves. This year will be no exception.
On the other hand, as we look back over the years to see how the festival came to be – it is with a heavy heart that we turn the page into the next chapter of our beloved Baltimore music scene.
From their humble beginnings partnering with Ultraworld to bring the underground warehouse rave scene to life in this area to becoming the production company we know and love – it has certainly been a long journey for Steez Promo. Now with more than 14 years of event planning experience, Moonrise Festival is sure to be their greatest accomplishment to date.
Before we step foot on these unfamiliar grounds, let’s take a journey back in time to see how the festival has grown. Beginning in 1998 as Sunrise Festival in a neglected Baltimore park, the festival morphed into Starscape Festival – The Garden of Eden the next year at Fort Amisted park and now it has made a full celestial cycle to become Moonrise Festival held at the historic Pimlico Race Track grounds.

Although the festival began a few years earlier, the internet was still relatively new at that time so unfortunately as we searched deeper into the past it became more difficult to find images and information online. I guess those years will remain a memory only cherished by those who lived it. As for the rest of us, we’ll have to make some new memories of our own today. See you at Moonrise Festival!
