Danish DJ and Producer Morten has been making a name for himself across the globe with his newly proclaimed genre Future Rave. Future rave is the genre both Morten and good friend David Guetta curated from scratch. The mixed style of techno and progressive house adds an aggressive melodic arpeggiator, punchy drums, and heavy basslines. It’s a genre more and more artists are starting to utilize in their sets. We got a taste of Morten’s fabrication at EDC Orlando and boy did he impress. Take a listen to Mortens EDC Orlando 2021 set here.
After three sets throughout the weekend, we knew we had to connect with him! Here is our post EDCO chat with Morten.
RR: For some, EDC Orlando was their first festival back after the pandemic, how would you describe the energy of the festival?
Morten: Hey guys, thank you for having me! It’s funny because I was talking to my manager last night about this, and you know we move around and experience a lot of festivals, but I have to say that EDCO felt beyond electrical! The energy and the positive vibrations were really special! I think everyone that was there will agree that it was absolutely amazing.
RR: How does playing at EDC compare to other international festivals?
Morten: I Think EDC is so unique that you can’t really compare it to other festivals. They have created a culture and people go along with it with everything they’ve got. Everyone is dressed up, and it’s a big mix of beautiful people.
RR: Your track “Impossible” with David Guetta and John Martin is a fan fav. You’ve said John Martins’ vocals “moves me”, what did you mean by that?
Morten: His vocals really move something in me when he says “listen to me now” !! It’s like: are you listening?, he has a real message, and I get moved by his lyrics and his voice.
RR: Is there another artist you hope to one day work with that also inspires you?
Morten: Many, I love Robyn, I would love to work with her.
RR: You and David created the genre known as Future Rave. What’s it like hearing artists across the world start incorporating it in their sets knowing you the movement?
Morten: It’s truly amazing, and it’s exactly what we were hoping for when we created it. I did not know it would get this big, but I’m happy to see and hear it. It’s the music we love!
RR: You and David met while working out in a gym in LA right? Do you think you can outlift him? On a serious note, is working out a vital part of your daily regimen?
Morten: Haha! David is in crazy shape, but I’m a viking you know… It’s very important for me to stay healthy, also mentally. And I try to put that footprint out there to my followers, I really encourage a healthy lifestyle.
RR: What’s your goal with Future Rave, where would you like to see the genre go?
Morten: Future Rave will always be evolving, it’s called Future for a reason. I think we’re going into a more techno, and darker direction now.
RR: When you’re not working on music, with friends/family, or working out, what’s the one thing you really enjoy doing for yourself?
Morten: Watching soccer is something I love. I follow a team in Denmark called AGF, that club has my heart.
RR: Some of your original work was done under the name Morten Breum, how has your sound evolved since then and why did you decide to drop Breum?
Morten : It has, but I think you can still hear my musical DNA in it. I removed my last name because it was too hard to pronounce outside of Denmark.
RR: Finally, tell us about what you have up your sleeve for the new year? Any residencies or big shows we should know about?
Morten: We have 2 releases coming up for Future Rave which I’m really focusing on at the moment. I’m also going to be playing festivals around the world, China, Brazil Mexico, everywhere! I’m really excited! Thank you, guys!!
