Mountain and Oasis are two words, stark in contrast, but incredible in their respects. Mountains are the grandfathers of Earth; they watch down upon us as wise priests that have been here long before us and will be long after we are gone. Oasis, besides being the name of that 90s band, provides us with a place to escape the monotony and corruption of today’s society.
Add in some of the best electronic music artists around today, and you’ve got yourself one hell of a combination. That is exactly what’s in store for live music fans this October 25-27 in Asheville, North Carolina at the Mountain Oasis Electronic Music Summit.
Location:
Taking place in downtown Asheville, the festival will exist within five different venues. Each within walking distance to the other, they will be fine tuned for the festival, and artists will be allocated to each venue most appropriate for the type of music and live performance they exhibit.
If you are unfamiliar with Asheville, it’s a beautiful city tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. The city is extremely cultural, containing historical sites such as the Biltmore and being known for its extensive live performance sector. The October weather in Asheville will be a perfect fall temperature, allowing for comfortable camping (if you so choose) around the Blue Ridge Parkway. However, if camping isn’t your style, there are plenty of hotels in Asheville, from five-star to motels.
Lineup:
Mountain Oasis offers a lineup that is unparalleled in its variety. Many electronic music festivals today take on the identity of pure “EDM” festivals, filled with DJ’s and the occasional bands. Mountain Oasis is very different, pulling in a diverse group of electronic-infused artists from around the globe, all very different yet pulled together by their electronic roots. Headliner Nine Inch Nails will prove to be an extremely unique show; Keyboardist Alessandro Cortini said that “if you see the show and you’re used to the CDs it’s pretty clear that the studio entity is different from the live entity,” when speaking to canoe.ca. Other highly anticipated acts include Baltimore’s psychedelic group Animal Collective, the recently reunited Neutral Milk Hotel, and electronic music pioneer Gary Numan.
Can you say BassLights?
Arguably what made this festival achieve such hype in a short amount of time within the electronic music community was the announcement of both Bassnectar and Pretty Lights. The two dance music heavyweights have found similar audiences in recent years; shows involving the two of them have been happening since 2010, when the two opened for each other at different venues in Richmond, Virginia.
Since then, the two artists have had two scheduled shows that showcased both of them; “PrettyNectar” in Alpharetta, Georgia in 2011 and the recent “BassLights” in Hampton, Virginia this past December, 2012. Mountain Oasis will be the third featured event with the two of them as headliners, and we expect it to be no different than their previous shows, which were met with huge success.
Activities:
At this time, there hasn’t been much released as to the many festival activities that will take place during the event. However, based on Asheville’s culture and the scale of the event, we can only assume there will be plenty to do while not at shows. Notably there are plenty of hikes and opportunities to explore the lush nature surrounding Asheville, such as the Blue Ridge Parkway. The website for Mountain Oasis boasts that aside from that, there will be “50+ acts, panel discussions, interactive experiences, installations, and more.”
Mountain Oasis Ticket Information:
At this moment, the tier-1 tickets have sold out, leaving two options available: Tier-2, which are $174.50 (plus fees), and then will move to tier-3 after those are sold out, which are $199.50 (plus fees). Tier-2 is a limited quantity, and once are sold out, tier-3 will be the only option while supplies last. Mountain Oasis also offers a great payment plan for those who are tight on money; you can pay an upfront fee, and pay the rest of ticket in monthly installments. This is a great option if you don’t have the large sum to pay for the tickets right away. Single day tickets will be released in the coming weeks.
Since the festival takes place at downtown venues, each show will be general admission, on first-come first-served basis. Once the venue is at capacity, goers will be let in one at a time as those inside leave. This means play accordingly, and be sure to get early to your favorite artists.
We are extremely excited for this new and unique event, and we hope you are too. Be sure to get your tickets before they sell out, and we’ll see you in Asheville this October.
