Gats, gatos, cats. Whatever language you want to use, Ivan Ramos, the Catalan label owner of Suara and DJ/producer, aka Coyu, has a serious love for the little felines by just looking at his photos on social media or Suara’s track/album covers. What you might not have known is that the Suara Foundation works to help cat rescuing, adoption, veterinary care, and more in his hometown of Barcelona. Every time you buy a track with a cat staring back, you’re helping to do some good. Meow.
But whether you’re a big cat person or not, you have to admit, the techno/tech house/deep house tracks that he releases under himself and his label include some of the best in the industry such as Carlo Lio, Mendo, Cristoph, Joeski, Hobo, Mark Jenkyns, Reinier Zonneveld, Hugo, and more. You must be doing something right if you’re ranked within the Top 50 of the most-charted artists on Resident Advisor.
Started back in 2008, Suara is now up to their 273rd release, with new singles and EPs coming out as soon as you’re done running the previous one on repeat. It’s no wonder that Suara was the #1 most charted label of 2013, 2014, and 2016 on Resident Advisor’s list. If you need a crash course on what to expect, every week Ivan presents Suara’s PodCats (get it? you got it) that showcases an hour from not only one of Coyu’s live sets from around the world, but a huge foundation of artists that have had releases on Suara that have included Wade, Noir, David Morales, Unir, Huxley, and so many more. The most recent is PodCat 170 which is a great showcase of Coyu’s talent as he was behind the decks at The Lab NYC.
So you now know of Coyu’s label, his foundation, his artists, but what about some his own tracks? Some would surmise that his track “El Baile Aleman” is what propelled him forward by reaching #1 on Beatport, and you can hear why. Check out the track which sits appropriately as his #1 played track on Spotify and all of the other fans favorites including Patrick Topping’s hit remix which premiered a year ago.
Come check out Coyu on Saturday at the Pyramind Stage from 4-5:30pm, because not only will it be a set that you don’t want to miss, but come to support a great human being.
