Dear Movement revelers: meet Volvox, the visionary Brooklyn-based artist, whose music is the future. Why? Because you’re sure as hell not going to want to miss her set at the Resident Advisor Underground stage on Sunday.
Known for her cutting-edge brews of techno, acid house, and electro, Ariana a.k.a Volvox has become a leading force in Brooklyn’s underground scene since she first emerged in 2011.
How would one best describe this techno priestess’ style? It’s sharp, stripped-back and refreshingly enough, a little off-putting. It will quickly grab your attention, but might take some time to totally win you over. But when it does – and we promise it will – it’s undeniably satisfying.
It all started way back when at a summer camp where she discovered Electronic Body Music. The now Volvox did some heavy Napster research, where she found artists like Apoptygma Berzerk, VNV Nation, Front 242 and other 80s/early 90s EBM influences, alongside legends like Green Velvet and The Prodigy.
Volvox’s college years in Boston helped pave the way for her to become prominent governor of the city’s underground scene, until it was time for the talent to make her mark in New York City and then explode internationally.
Since 2015, Volvox has made fierce waves and left lasting impressions all around the globe with hard-hitting gigs at Berghain, De School, and Helsinki, to name a few.
If you haven’t caught on by now, what we’re trying to rely to you is that Volvox is an innovative badass with a sound that is going to cut right through the crowd at this year’s Movement Detroit festival.
Don’t miss Volvox at Movement Detroit on Sunday, My 26 at the Resident Advisor Underground stage.
