Mel and Clemens, best known as creative duo MÖWE have had a great run since they began producing together back in 2013. After an eventful 2017, we invited the duo to have a little chat with us about how it all began, how their style evolved and what they have in store for 2018. And we found out quite a lot! From learning guitar in their youth to the tropical house music they love created now and the album they launched last year, read everything below in the full interview with MÖWE. RR: Tell us a bit of how each of your journeys in the music industry began.
Mel: So I started learning guitar when I was a teenager and I just knew all I wanted to do was make
music. I started my first band at the age of 14, where I also started singing. I met Clemens at a gig, he
was playing the bass and we happened to need a bass player at the time and I just knew he was
perfect for our band. As time went on the two of us wanted to take a bit of a different direction and
we started producing music electronically rather than as a band, and then MÖWE was born!
Clemens: I had a similar sort of path actually, I learnt Bass & Guitar in my early teens then I played in
a few different indie-rock bands until I met Mel, I’m pretty sure there was a few more beers and
wines in our story than Mel mentioned along with nights spent producing music together which
brought us together to create MÖWE!
RR: It’s been a year since your debut album “Back In Summer” was released. Looking back on it, how do you see the album now? Is there something you would change about it?
It was really important for us to make an album, because we have come from a rock background
where it is normal to release an album. We tried to incorporate all kind of genres we like, such as
underground dance music to pop music and also an element of indie music. To be fully honest we
wouldn’t change anything, cause it’s our style and of course a lot of time and love went into
producing this. We worked nearly 3 years on it so to spend that amount of time on it we would only
release it when we were absolutely 110% about it.
RR: Your newest track “One Love” is out now and is already catching the ears of fans worldwide. What is the story behind this feel-good song?
We got this crazy vocal from our manager and loved it on the first listen. We started laying down
some chords to it and for the chorus we tried to find a good melody which fitted well in line with the
bass. Although it’s a down tempo song, we tried to put more of a dance spin on it.
RR: What are your hopes regarding the track?
What is most important for us is that people enjoy listening to our music. We hope it sends out good
vibes and make people smile! We really loved making it and all we want is for people to enjoy it as
much as we enjoyed making it
RR: Since you began producing, how did your personal style evolve? Are you open to experimenting with new genres?
We are really open minded. At the beginning we started creating more underground dance music
with a lot of synths, guitars and bass. Now we are still producing dance music but with a more
tropical/deep house vibe. When we start producing a new song we just go with the flow, not really
thinking of a genre in mind but going with what we feel fits best with the vocal.
RR: Is there something the other can do to instantly get on your nerves?
Hahaha nothing really 🙂 we work well as a team, everyone has ups and downs, but we know each
other really well on a personal and work level. We are both pretty easy-going.
RR: 2017 is approaching to an end. What can we expect from you in the following year?
We have so many singles and remixes in the pipeline which I cannot wait for you all to hear.. Also
lots more touring, come and see us soon!

RR: Do you have any personal new years resolutions?
To remember to write 2018 instead of 2017! Haha no seriously though we want to do more sports and stay healthy!
