Spoken word poet Madiha Bhatti was feeling some type of way about the often vulgar and degrading lyrics towards women in modern day music. She took to YouTube to express her disdain and absolutely murdered her five minute speach.
“It reduced people to parts, objects to be acquired, turned hearts and minds into mere things to be desired,” Bhatti proclaims. “As parts of my body were assessed in size I thought, what a way to be dehumanized.” She goes on to make numerous valid points in a flawless artistic fashion.
Do you recognize the objectification of women in EDM? I can think of at least five songs or artists that do so. As a female, I have to wonder, do we encourage it?
