With 24 days to go, Movement is impending, and so is your need to get your schedule together now that the set times are out. While this can be a daunting and overwhelming task, we’d like to throw in our two cents for the artists that we won’t be missing, and we don’t think that you should either. In no particular order, let’r rip:
Stacey Pullen
The Detroit native and Blackflag Recordings label boss Stacey Pullen was one of our favorites artists that we had the pleasure of seeing in 2017. Launching the crowd into the Star Gate that you’d swear you were on another planet, which shows how much mentoring under the legends Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson has paid off. Although he hasn’t released a lot of music recently, his DJing is next level. Check out his set from 2013 and get ready to launch this year.
Claude VonStroke
Rave Dad, The Bird Bird, or Barclay Crenshaw, however you refer to him, we all know one thing: he has curated a wave of house, tech house, and techno that has taken the tour and festival scene by storm. It’s hard to see a festival these days without either a few Dirtybird artists, or (Gods be good) a curated stage. FISHER, Justin Martin, Will Clarke, and so many others have pushed the Dirtybird label into international prominence. The reason for that specialized talent is this guy right here, Claude VonStroke. With every single submission and track gettings approved by him, it shows you the level of skill that he has to pick the best of the best, and his own sets are no different. Whether they’re tech house classics “Make A Cake” or “The Rain Break,” or infectious techno including “Grenade” and “Raw Nerve” his closing set on Saturday at the main stage is there you need to be.
Eats Everything
Best British DJ, two BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes, and #13 in Resident Advisor’s Top DJ poll. Daniel Pearce, aka Eats Everything did that all within one year. Nobody else has made such a mark within such a short period of time. Whether he’s producing remixes of classic track’s like Green Velvet’s “Flash” or massive originals like “Dancing (Again!),” Eats Everything has the creativity, the drive, and the flow that will surely be a standout set of the weekend at Movement.
Joseph Capriati
If you know techno, you know Joseph Capriati. The Italian native has climbed the ladder and emerged as an Ibiza staple at clubs including DC10, around the globe with Adam Beyer at Drumcode events, or renowned festivals including ADE, Mint, Life, and more. If he’s not touring the globe, then he’s curating the next best track on Redimension, his his label since 2016 that have seen the likes of Adam Beyer, Flavio, Anthony Parasole, and more to come. Don’t miss his performance at Movement to understand the justified hype.
Gene Farris
Last, and only least if you’ve been stuck at Ultra’s main stage your entire life is THE Chicago house genius, Gene Farris. If you have ever heard of Power House, Boom Boom Room, or Jimmy Woo, then you know that Gene was a staple in the emergence and evolution of house and techno since the 1990s. From 10+ releases with collaborator and friend Green Velvet, he continues to be unstoppable for over 25 years. Movement may be the place to discover new artists, but it’s also a place to see those who help to continue to shape it for what it is today.
Don’t miss out. Tickets to Movement are still available here. We’ll see you in the plaza!
