At a time when festival tickets are more expensive than ever before, EDC Las Vegas attendees can expect even higher prices in the future.
The Nevada government saw the opportunity to get a grab a bigger slice from Las Vegas festivals, and they seized it. According to a recent report by Fox 5 Las Vegas:
Nevada lawmakers recently passed a bill that imposes a 9 percent tax on most live entertainment tickets and replaces a complicated tax structure that was riddled with exemptions.
Any events in venues that hold at least 15,000 people are now liable to pay the tax, even if the organizers have nonprofit status. That means a $360 weekend pass for the Electric Daisy Carnival could come with an extra fee of about $30.
Festivals organizers call the tax misguided and detrimental.
The new tax not only affects EDC Las Vegas, but other big time festivals in Nevada such as Burning Man and Rock in Rio. We can only hope that festival ticket prices hit a plateau soon because the sharp increases over the past few years have been difficult for many people to deal with. However, with today’s high demand for festivals, we are likely to see more of the ticket increase trend.
