As of late, r&b and electronic music have collided in the form of chill trap. While the fusion is sometimes overdone, in the case of newcomer DJ Hatch’s debut single “New Direction,” the combination feels refreshing. We don’t know much about Hatch yet, but the Australian DJ’s production skills are auspicious; the track’s fluid simplicity easily competes with songs released by chill trap virtuosos, such as Cashmere Cat and Flume.
A vocal intro, delivered by Hatch himself, sets the tone for “New Direction,” before quickly downshifting into a melodious minimal riff. Not only is Hatch a skilled DJ and vocalist, but also a multi-instrumentalist, which proves that the producer is one to watch out for. Those who love “New Direction” are in for a treat, as the recently released track package features the original as well as two impressive remixes. By slowing down the tempo a few notches and adding synth overtones, GRMM delivers a sultry flip of the already sensual original. Standing in stark contrast to GRMM’s version is UV Boi’s remix of the track. By adding a deep bassline, UV boi creates a hard-hitting dirty trap track, sure to satisfy trap fans everywhere. Check out the track package below and keep an ear to the ground for more Hatch music to come.
