Nightmare Festival is one of Maryland’s most well known Halloween festivals that got its start in 2013. The notrious Halloween fiesta is organized by none other than Badassraves. Badass is known for putting on a couple other festivals like Big Dub in Pennslyvania and Dreamscape in Maryland. Their festivals generally employ bass heavy acts, drum and bass, and some hardstyle. Their first festivals would come in 2013 with the inaugural years of Big Dub and Nightmare Festival. Big Dub would obviously attract some of the hardest bass and dubstep acts in the industry to kick off a festival that just wrapped its fourth year this past summer. Also in October of 2013 would ignite the first year of the famed Nightmare Festival. However, Nightmare Festival’s initial lineup differed from that of Big Dub and Dreamscape.
Although we would undoubtedly see some bass acts that are notorious for performing at Badass festivals, we would also see some trance and techno performances. Rising trance duo Tritonal had just begun to make a name for themselves and were a welcomed surprise to this innovative lineup. In addition, we would see Above & Beyond favorites, Myon & Shane 54 making an appearance at Nightmare 2013. Known for their uplifting, melodic trance style, MS54 were the perfect mix up to a generally bass oriented festival. Last but not least, techno legend Claude VonStroke would score a headlining performance in 2013. The one day event would end with a bang and Nightmare Festival 2014 would soon be confirmed for the next year.
Nightmare Festival 2014 would return with a whole lot of force. Upgraded from 2013, the festival would now be three days and featured camping on the Camp Ramblewood grounds. Once again, Nightmare’s lineup would continue to impress attendees and generated a ton of noise in the industry upon its release. Figure would bring his famed bass as well as his Terrorvision production setup to create an extra spooky experience. In addition, some UK hardcore and hard style artists like Kayzo, Coone and Darren Styles were brought on to have Nightmare Festival going harder than ever. Similar to 2013, a few trance acts would perform to bring a euphoric and blissful aspect to a festival filled with intense head banging. Trance legend BT would be slated for a headlining performance as well as Finnish duo Super8 & Tab.
After a successful 2014, Nightmare Festival would again return in 2015 for three days of camping and earth shattering bass. Some big names would be announced as the headliners and performances from Keys N Krates, Herobust, Omar Link, and Figure would stun attendees in Nightmare’s third year. After being a smaller name on the lineup just two years before, Protohype secured himself as a headliner in the third year of Nightmare Festival. For the first year, Nightmare would stray away from trance acts and featured more bass heavy as well as hardstyle acts. LA native and hardstyle queen, Lady Faith would kick off her inaugural year performing at Nightmare Festival. After three years of creating a haunted madness, it only made sense for Nightmare to continue its tradition and come back for its highly anticipated fourth year.
The 2016 lineup of Nightmare Festival was released not long and features some of the hardest bass acts out there. Big Dub favorite, Dubloadz was announced for his inaugural year and we couldn’t be happier to see the New Jersey native coming to Nightmare. In addition, Figure is returning for his third consecutive year with Crizzly and Liquid Stranger as the two other headliners. Although this year is three days of camping, day three will not include any music and will be used to clean up the Camp Ramblewood grounds in order to leave it as spotless as when attendees arrived. Similar to 2015, minimal trance acts are slated to perform, but keep your ears open as there are a couple.
