Its been ages since Nightmares On Wax released any new music; perhaps you’ve never even heard of NoW. George Evelyn, also known as DJ E.a.s.e, is a downtempo trip-hop producer based out of Ibiza, Spain who has produced chilled out tracks under the moniker Nightmares On Wax since 1991. The dance music veteran has 9 albums under his belt, all epitomizing a similar style: deep, soulful tracks heavily influenced by hip-hop and containing a very experimental aspect to them. Four years since his last release, we are now presented with “Now Is The Time”, the first single of his upcoming album, “Feelin’ Good” set to drop September 17th.
“Now Is The Time” gives me a reflection of yet another change in style of the ever-evolving Nightmares On Wax. While this track certainly contains elements of hip-hop and soul, it does not seem as “chill” as his earlier releases. Containing a more uptempo beat, constant bouncy synths and a quick chorus sample, Nightmares On Wax releases this first single perfectly in the middle of summer. This is a track you could play at a party, or just hanging around with friends, and no one would complain. I’m extremely interested to see how the rest of his album pans out, and if he continues with this more upbeat style. Stay tuned for more releases leading up to the album drop.
