The rising stars of mau5trap have been arising this past summer. From REZZ having one of the best techno sets at Shambahla this year, to a slue of new and rising stars that we keep coming to find from such compilations as We Are Friends Vol. 5 (which REZZ and No Mana are both on).
But for now, let’s look at the progressive house gem that is Game Over EP. The album gets started with a “Nostalgia Drive” that slowly works its way into your ears until a mist of synths open into a dark techno bass line, sitting in purgatory for awhile but eventually lifting up with all elements colliding in harmony that really gets things going. Next Jessica Ess questions the confusion and crossing synths of “Tell Me More” into a serious journey of existing and relating. Yeah, it gets intense. “Lethargy” featuring Cafcat brings us back to reality and a playful bass-infused house beat that sounds like we’re helping out Blue Man Group on stage in Vegas. The last three tracks continue to shine with the flexibility of No Mana with moments of techno, trance, and house, but it’s really the track “Over & Over” with the beautiful vocals of Zashanell that really stands out and has you reaching for the sky and smiling with it’s beautiful beat.
And as with any rising star these days, we have no idea who No Mana is. But, as long as he/she’s not trying to be Popcoorn, and keeps releasing EPs like these, we can manage with it staying a mystery.
You can stream the full EP on Spotify or purchase on Beatport.
