Nora En Pure took over the Disco Inferno stage at Imagine Music Festival this year to give us a sublime trip into her masterful deep house grooves. The music gods blessed us fans with an extra half hour of Nora, which we danced away with pleasure. We got down to all of the classics like ‘Saltwater’, ‘Come With Me’, and ‘Sprinkle’ before she dropped her new single ‘Fever’ that really drew out the animals in us.
We luckily got a chance to catch up with the busy artist to chat about her new single, upcoming music, and more.
RR: How do you feel about your set at Imagine this past weekend? It was amazing that you got an extra half hour or so. Do you ever hold out on some favorites for happenstance situations like that?
NEP: Hey! It was really amazing thank you. It was the perfect set up, and it was a lot of fun. It’s always nice when you get to play a little longer than expected, but it doesn’t happen all that often, so don’t tend to save my favourites!
RR: You just dropped your new single, ‘Fever‘, and it’s funky in all the best ways. Where do you draw those particular inspirations from?
NEP: Thanks! It’s been going down really well in my sets. Well for ‘Fever’ I wanted to go down the road of ‘Convincing’, because it got such amazing feedback, and people seemed to love its funky sound. ‘Fever’ has a similar feel to it, and really manages to get people grooving.
RR: This track also features vocals, which is something we know you definitely don’t incorporate without careful consideration. What drove the decision to include lyrics this time?
NEP: I really like this singer’s voice who was featured in ‘Convincing’ and ‘Fever’. And I feel it fits perfectly to this style of groovy music. It just gives the right vibe when its played out.
RR: Looking through your releases in the past year, there seems to be a running theme between a connection with nature and the self through the titles of the tracks. Is this intentional, and if so, how do you feel it puts across your image or statement as an artist? Will this theme continue?
NEP: I do believe this theme will continue in my productions. I always wanted Nora En Pure music to be connected to nature. It fits really well to my style, and makes my track feel really organic and adventurous.
RR: Where do you see your music going moving forward? Do you think you’ll stick to the similar veins of deep house variations or are you looking to explore other avenues outside of the genre entirely?
NEP: For now I am really content with my style of music, it has become really characteristic. But I feel flexible, and not constrained to any musical genres. I think I will remain consistent, but also allow myself to explore other styles!
RR: Is there anyone you’re hoping to collaborate with sometime in the future? Any other tracks or releases fans can look forward to?
NEP: I have been working on a couple of new tracks that I’m playing quite often these days but I’m still waiting to have a title track for the next EP. For collabs I feel you need to have some good studio time and finish the project in one go which I barely find the time for. But I’m sure before end of the year I will be able to release another EP.
RR: A couple of fun questions: Do you have a bucket list? If so, what have you been able to cross off within the past year?
NEP: I don’t really have a bucket list, but playing Coachella and Tomorrowland (even on the mainstage with a 3-hr set) this year were definitely some real highlights.
RR: Does your Jack Russell get to come on tour? What’s her favorite thing to do with you on your days off?
NEP: I barely take her with as she doesn’t enjoy flights all that much, so I mostly leave her with family while I’m gone. She’s super active and has a lot of energy like a lot of jack russells 😉 so her favorite things are probably hikes in the mountains where she can explore and run freely.
We thank Nora for taking the time to talk with us. Check out new her music on Soundcloud down below and tickets for her mini October tour here.
