Notaker has been keeping us busy this month with his recent single releases like “Who I Am” with Karra and his official remix of Gareth Emery’s “Saving Light”. He’s back with a new 5 track EP, Genesis, a thoughtfully structured mini album spanning across multiple genres and each track flowing into the next. In 2016, the young producer behind the moniker, Dave Nothaker, started to really catch everyone’s attention, most notably with his single “Infinite” that got snagged up by Monstercat. It reached over 2 million plays when it first dropped, which seemed to fuel his discography growth for the rest of the year. He went on to release other incredible tracks like “Gems” and then following up earlier this year with “Abyss” on Mau5trap. Nothaker has a fast growing presence in the electronic scene and we’re excited to dig into “Genesis”.
The EP starts off with “Just Close Your Eyes”, a track heavily influenced by Notaker’s general love affair with cinematic inspirations. Right from here you can tell that this album is something different and the build up to the journey Notaker is known for taking his listeners on. We flow into his previously released “Who I Am” featuring Karra and Declean James. The progressive track takes us deeper with Karra’s soft vocals and a beat that makes us feel like we are taking off. He mixes in the melodic synthwaves with heart pumping beats that lift us up and push us through to the third song. “So Much Love” has interplaying electronic scales and slow buildup of rhythm that all combines together that culimnates right up to the drop. We’re taken into a heavy tone that gets our heads bumping and feet moving. It has a lot of more of an underground, ambient house vibe clocking in at seven minutes, making it the longest and one of our favorites to get lost in. We move on to “Wake Up, You’re Dreaming”, a track pre-released earlier this month that got us pumped for the official EP drop. It takes us full synthwave, blending in piano, voice cuts, and gets heavy handed with the interchanging beats. Lastly, he leaves us with “Terra”, with endless synthesizer scales building us up and down before finally dropping into a spell-binding, darkly colored beat. We go in and out like this before coasting off to a close.
Genesis is just another excellent showcase of the growing talent and reach that Notaker has created for himself. You can get your hands on this and his other tracks through Spotify, Soundcloud, and Monstercat now.
