With NONSENS having just played Electric Daisy Carnival with more shows in the works and Bonnie X Clyde set to play Sunset Music Festival this weekend, it would be easy to label the moment as another notch in the belt for NU MGMT, the team behind the success of BXC, Nonsens, SAMF, Morten, Nitti Gritti, Kandy, and Ricky Mears. Nu’s presence and impact is hard to ignore, a quick look at their socials displays acts at world-class festivals, regular touring schedules, and releases on well-established labels. The two latest singles from the crew is “Make It Pop” by Nonsens and “The Unknown” by Bonnie X Clyde, both showcasing their own sentiments will still rooting itself in a certain party-friendly feel.
“Make It Pop” by NONSENS is easy to grab one’s attention, with it’s steep drops, heavy bass, and almost tribal drums and chords. NONSENS is no stranger to having club bangers, but “Make It Pop” is their first shot at the sub-genre of bass house. The three who make up the group, Anton, Jens, and Rasmus were all inspired on their childhood island home of Bornholm, by a wide array of house music culture. When the trio began making their own music, the rest became history. 2018 was a very big year for them, as they released not only this single, but also “Let’s Go,” in April. NONSENS is bound to experience even more success, as they have recently moved stateside, to LA.
The comforting yet disturbing single “The Unknown,” by Bonnie X Clyde, stirs up darkness in the soul, conveying a certain theme of being forced to accept your fears – a moment we all cope and cross paths with at some point. The song quickly becomes a heavy, electronic-laden focused piece, post-bass drops. Both members starting taking a career in dance music more seriously in 2015, since then they have gained a steady following, after being on SiriusXM’s BPM chart as the #1 Beat of the Week for five straight weeks alongside consistent content. Since then, they have been releasing music and touring a variety of venues. 2018 looks like it will be a great year for BONNIE X CLYDE, and “The Unknown” confirms that.
Nu MGMT sets a dope standard of how consistent music and local parties (alongside big festivals) is a model to satsify and grow a constant fanbase – having not only participated, but altered the course of Florida’s (and beyond) dance music history for the better.
