After the release of La NVDITÉ, Vol. 1 EP earlier this year, it was only a matter of time until NVDES returned with the next sequence of their evolution. Now they’re back with Vol. 2. The new EP consists of 6 tracks: “This High,””D.Y.T. (Do your thing),” “Everyday,” “Amsterdam in my mind,” “Walls,” and “Where is your mind?”
But before we dig into the new EP, let’s take a look at who or what is NVDES. It’s a creative collective curated, produced and co-performed by Josh Ocean, less of a band and more of an ongoing art project. Of the creative project, Ocean says it is an ignition of controlled chaos,“building songs around random moments.” La Nvdité—the group’s creative process—was set into motion when Ocean invited different musicians into his Los Angeles living room to jam. They recorded whatever music or lyrics transpired, which he pieced together into songs. And it turns out, the uncommon way of producing was incredibly successful. As of 2017, NVDES’ music can be heard in over 15 shows and commercials for the likes of Victoria’s Secret and has gathered over 12 million streams across platforms, charted on Spotify’s Global and US Viral Charts, and earned acclaim from the likes of FADER and NYLON.
And then came time for Vol. 2 to make its entry. The six-track collection is brimming with Ocean’s signature energy-packed influence, fusing pulsing electronics, hard-hitting beats, and ethereal vocals. Its track “Everyday”was released at the beginning of December, along with a music video.
It seems that the unique producing process, which is similar to the cut-out techniques used in avant-gardism, worked out wonderfully for NVDES. The new EP is setting the internet ablaze and there’s no telling when the fire will be put out.
