Today the duo Odesza (Catacombkid and BeachesBeaches) released their EP ‘My Friends Never Die’, containing five tracks of some of the most experimental, ambient, and melodic bass-music WRR has heard in a while. It’s hard to put a label on these guys, but it’s most appropriate that we don’t. Odesza presents ‘My Friends Never Die’ as a raw insight into their emotions as musicians, and the product is pure, transparent beauty.
The influences apparent in ‘My Friends Never Die’ are all over the place. Elements of contemporary dubstep, trap, hip-hop, electro-soul and more seem to appear at times. The entire piece has a bit of a world-fusion vibe to it, but with a definite electronic-dancefloor edge. Our personal favorite is “Without You”, featuring a peaceful atmosphere but a deep beat, topped off with vocal chopping from “Somebody I Used To Know”. You can download the entire EP below via their Soundcloud; enjoy!
