It’s almost been a week since the release of the A Moment Apart the 16 track album released by ODESZA. The new release will mark the third studio album to come from the minds of Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight. The time I have spent listening and relistening to every song on this album is only comparable to that of Worlds by Porter Robinson. Each song a journey further into the depths of the creativity of the Seattle duo. The collaborations, the depth, the instrumental tracks, and even the intro all culminate into a one of a kind album.
If you close your eyes, clutch your headphones, and hold on you will be transported to another world. The Intro prepares you with a story about a Russian cosmonaut falling in love with a sound, and as you delve into the tracks of this album you see yourself becoming the cosmonaut.
A Moment Apart the title track “Higher Ground” (featuring Naomi Wild) the last single released before the release of the album, and Boy an instrument track with sounds reminiscent of an engine starting blast the beginning of the album off.
The fifth track “Line of Sight” (featuring WYNNE & Mansionair) the catchy single that captured our love, and initially gave us the green flag that we would not be disappointed with the way that Odesza was maturing musically.
My favorite track off the album “Across the Room” (featuring Leon Bridges) is a smooth transition song that slows the speed of the album with a sultry track were Bridges voice compliments the driving force of Odesza’s production in a sweet symphony.
Another note worthy song off the album is “Just A Memory” the combination of Regina Spektor’s silky vocals mixed with Odesza’s synthesized instruments creates a hauntingly beautiful song in a style that can only be managed by the talents involved.
Falls a pop infused song that is highlighted by Sasha Sloan’s voice and “Show Me“ an Indian style infused track lead up to the final track chosen to complete ODESZA’s third studio album.
“Corners of the Earth” (featuring RY X) a grand finale full of fireworks that deserve’s the title of being a climactic end to an album that stomped any doubt we had about whether or not ODESZA was here to stay.
The album tells a story of falling in love with a sound, a musical journey that guides your ears into space around the moon and back to lightly plant your feet back on the ground.
