We can all agree that Oliver Twizt produces some of the craziest yet well-composed tunes. Having produced music for the past 13+ years, Twizt has worked with the likes of Diplo, Sandro Silva, and recently Angger Dimas, releasing tracks on Mixmash Records, Mad Decent, Spinnin’ Records and more. The classical-instrumental vibe of his sound is hard to miss.
In Oliver’s spare time he parties with Afrojack and chills with Angger Dimas in Indonesia, he had owned a redhead bunny rabbit that he may or may not have eaten, and he dreams of playing with Waka Flocka Flame at his future shows. What do you like about Miami?
The crazy vibe, you know? Let’s talk about the thing I hate about Miami. To do business or something is really difficult, you know? Because people get way too… every night, and then when you have to reach somebody else or something it’s really, really hard to do that. But the funny thing is, everybody’s here. Like, everybody’s here, and that’s what I love. You know, I never see the guys who I grew up with, like the DJ’s back in Holland, but everybody’s here and we can meet up and hang with the guys. It’s all about fun, so if you wanna do business, it’s a little hard. But if you wanna have fun, it’s all about Miami!
What’s different about playing a show in Miami versus another big city?
You know, people don’t really care in Miami. You come like, dressed up and stuff, but it’s like, at the end of the night you don’t care if your shoes are broken or if your dress is ripped. In New York, they do. So that’s what I like about Miami. Everybody’s here for like having fun and partying. You know, the girls dress up really nice, but at the end of the night, they don’t care anymore!
I can see what you’re talking about. What’s some advice you might give a new DJ playing a show in Miami?
The biggest tip I can give- smash every show. That’s what Afrojack once told me, he was like, it doesn’t matter where you play, try to smash it, you know? Doesn’t matter if it’s sold out or not, or if there are like 5 or 10 people, no problem. Kill it. And that’s the best advice I can give. Show ’em what you got, you know, no matter when it’s raining or if you miss your flight, or if you travel for 10 weeks or you’re really tired, doesn’t matter. Always rock the show and smiiiiile! Have fun.
Great ideas. Have you found any new inspiration since you’ve been down here in Miami?
The biggest thing for me is the good weather and the sun. I’m from Holland and it’s raining and snowing all the time, so it’s really depressing, but when you’re here and you see people enjoying the music again, it takes you to like, another level. You’re like, okay, this works, this really works… so it’s a chain reaction basically in your head of what’s going on when you’re here. The whole vibe is so inspiring.
I hear that – it’s so beautiful down here. So you just released the XXX Remixes…
Triple X was just a working title you know? I didn’t know what to call the song, and Angger as well. We were like, well, just leave it like Triple X, and everyone is associating it now with, like, porn, haha!
How did collaborating with Angger Dimas come about?
Oh he’s my boy, he’s my boy for years already. I played in Indonesia in 2010 and he was there, and we hooked up, and since then we were like… he’s my best DJ friend. Really, he is. I think he is the most talented producer in this scene. Seriously, 100%. He’s gonna be big. If he wants, he can take over. He’s super talented, seriously.
He definitely has a unique sound. Working with him must have been a blast.
Ahh man, we had so much fun. He gets you so much energy and he’s such a good guy. He’s like, come to my house, in Indonesia, bro! He always calls me bro all the time, he’s like, bro! What do you want for dinner! He’s awesome.
How did you come up with that album artwork for XXX?
Dim Mak did that, but it’s actually really good. It’s really dope, I like it. I don’t know, we never went to a strip club together. I guess they think that but we didn’t, no no.
Which remix is your favorite for XXX?
The Hot Mouth one. It’s fire. We heard a lot of remixes, and these were really the best. The Hot Mouth track, you know I play it so much.
What else do you have in the works right now?
I’m doing a track with Elleah, that’s the girl who sung on Pull The Trigger, the track with Sandro, and it’s a pretty progressive like, romantic, like, something different again. So that’s coming out I guess in the next 2 months or something. I got stuff laying around, collab with Luke, I’m working with Ansol, and a bunch of stuff is ready to go. Did the remix for Bloody Beetroots, remix for Steve Aoki, and it’s all coming out soon.
Who would you really like to play a show with?
Wow. I would love do to something different. I would love to play with guys like… you know, I’m playing like trap beats and crazy stuff, and like, Rick Ross and Jay Z, and Waka Flocka, yeah! Yeah! So crazy! That would be awesome, you know. Everybody’s jumping on the stage, like a hip hop concert. That’s what I wanna do. Too bad I can’t rap.
You can definitely learn to rap!
No, I can’t! That would be so awesome.
Anything else you want to tell the WhiteRaverRafting fam?
Hm…like if I have pets? I have a rabbit. I had a rabbit. I gave her away. Her name was Muffin.
What color was she?
A redhead. She was pretty weird because she had like, all this hair in her face, she looked so weird. I don’t have pictures anymore, but I had a rabbit.
Many thanks to Oliver Twizt for making time to sit down with us for an interview during his busy week in Miami.
