Zedd’s “Moment of Clarity” tour opened at the House of Blues in Boston last night, but this isn’t what they were looking for. Police officially pronounced one adult female dead at 12:42 AM after being transported to the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Another adult female and adult male taken to the hospital remain there in critical condition late this morning.
According to police the victims did not know each other and homicide detectives are currently investigating. The House of Blues is voluntarily shutting down tonight and it’s unclear how the situation will be handled going forward.
Jay Anderson a spokesman for the club,
“Last evening, there were guests at our venue in need of medical treatment during the performance. They were assisted by Boston EMS as well as on-site emergency medical personnel and then transported to local medical facilities. One individual has unfortunately passed away and our thoughts go out to their family and friends for their loss. This matter is under investigation and we are continuing to work with local officials.”
The victims all took an unknown drug substance. More information is expected when toxicology reports are released.
Zedd was scheduled to perform again tonight, but it has been cancelled. Police are urging anyone with information that may help in their investigation to call 617-343-4470.
Note:
As someone who has been covering the scene for a few years now, as tragic as this may be it’s even more rare that it happened at a show. Normally overdoses occur at festivals when individuals have been exposed for extended periods of time. This Zedd show couldn’t have been more than five hours, leading me to believe that whatever illegal substance that they did take acted extremely quick. The show ended before 1 AM.
In the U.K green rolex ecstasy pills laced with PMMA have killed over 15 people. Hopefully these pills have not made their way to Boston. If you or anyone you know in the Boston area has purchased any type of illegal substance recently, I strongly implore that you destroy it immediately.
