One of the most legendary acts in the history of EDM, Orbital continues to shape the future of the industry with their constantly evolving sound. Hailing from a small town in the U.K., Orbital is made up of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll. This duo has been delivering breathtaking music for over 30 years together, showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Their one-of-a-kind blend of trance, techno, house, and more has received global attention, with support from the biggest names in electronic music.
Now, ahead of their highly anticipated upcoming LP Optical Delusion, Orbital has dropped their opening track on the compilation, “Ringa Ringa”. This single is inspired by The Mediaeval Baebes version of “Ring O’Roses”, which is a classic nursery rhyme with strong ties to the tragic Black Death plague. Speaking on the inner workings of “Ringa Ringa”, Paul from Orbital shares, “I’ve always liked folk music and medieval sounds. I had the basis of that track and I wanted to spin it off somehow. When I stumbled onto “Ring O’Roses”, my hackles just went up. I was like, my God, this is the original pandemic folk song. It just fit so perfectly. It kept haunting me that it was suddenly relevant again.”
Starting off with hypnotic vocal chops and a heavy drum beat, a funky bassline eventually comes into the track. “Ringa Ringa” utilizes interstellar effects and riveting chord progressions to draw in its audience, locking them in with its infectious sound. This auditory masterpiece from Orbital is the perfect reality-distorting adventure to preview their upcoming album and tour dates.
