Today we’ve been gifted 12 remixes to Meraki, Opiuo’s sophomore album released in March. Back then the New Zealander had us bouncing to tracks like “Snorkle” and “Chubby Putty”, while grooving to “On Your Side” ft. Russ Liquid, and going into some deeper thought patterns with “Life” ft. Gift of Gab and Syreneiscreamy. After experiencing a hugely positive response to the album Opiuo brought his glitch hop sound to the States with stops at Sonic Bloom, Shambhala, and Euphoria to name a few. Now, he’s given a unique array of artists a chance to lend their hand and create original works rooted in Meraki’s sound.
“On Your Side” ft. Russ Liquid – Russ Liquid Remix
Right out the gate is a Russ remix that he supplied the horns for on the original Meraki. He keeps the same mellow vibe but gives us some sexy guitar and organs that mesh beautifully with the melody that Opiuo provides. Awesome track for this rainy day.
“Quack Fat” – Spoonbill (Remix)
Spoonbill takes his shot at this remix and doesn’t miss the mark. The result is a more aggressive, wubby combination of sounds that gets you grooving and raises your heart rate. Loving the farting bassline throughout, and the horns mixed in.
“Chubby Putty” ft. Beats Antique – Mr. Bill (Remix)
Hailing from Australia, Mr. Bill decided to take on Opiuo and Beats Antique for his remix. He manages to keep those distinctly Beats Antique elements while still adding plenty of his own on the track. The result is a diverse range of sounds that come together to become something all its own.
“La Fong. ft D-Sens – Lunar Sound (Remix)
This remix is courtesy of an unfamiliar name, Lunar Sound. I’ve looked everywhere on Facebook and Soundcloud but there isn’t much information on this guy/s. If the remix they put out is going to do the talking I think we may be hearing more of them to come. We get dark and funky on this one with a bass line that brings the funk out like last night’s leftovers. Digging this one by this mysterious moon artist.
