It’s been sometime since I full engulfed myself in something far out of the mainstream and while also being completely chill; this time, “Leisure” by Panda Coast was my pleasure of choice. Coming out of it now I can report it was a sobering and satisfying experience. Anyone who is a fan of feeling good should give the comfortable 4-track release a shot.
Bokeh
“Bokeh” starts off rather tense, lots of rough, raw sounds and melodies gradually lift and drop, leaving you unsure of what the entire album will hold, but also not dissatisfied with what’s happening moment-to-moment. In the end, “Bokeh” encompasses an original theme that easily appreciated.
For Me
“For Me” continues the slow vibe, but raises the melody to new realms, giving you a surprising sense of relief as more luscious, soft melodies begin to layer and swirl around you. 80’s-ish drums kick in after – traveling to the end of the song seems to happen in a flash.
Pastels
Easily my favorite track, “Pastels’s” extremely well-panned sound effects and a certain poppy zest ties together to make on hell of a track. Easily enjoyable dozens of times over.
Stay For Comfort
Finishing strong is “Leisure’s” final part “Stay For Comfort.” Highlighting more percussion sounds than synths mostly, “Stay For Comfort” is an ambient closer to the world of Panda Coast.
“Leisure’s” trippy and chill, ambient and experimental elements make Panda Coast an act not soon to forget. Check below for more info on the group and their latest release.
