Pandora and Ticketfly have joined forces to become the first mega company that can control users through their full circle music experience. This new platform is not only going to change the way that promoters sell tickets, but how we discover music and interact with live events. A tech company meets ticketing capabilities…the possibilities are endless.
The first of which is streaming live events online. Pandora paired up with Ticketfly venue, Merriweather Post Pavilion, for a test run of a Mumford and Sons show that over a million people ended up creating stations in order to view. While a lot of artists and festivals are capable of delivering a couch tour experience, this type of platform to pick and choose from an in depth menu of shows would be game changing for all walks of music fans. Ticketfly will also continue to operate as a stand-alone company under the merger.
A second huge capability would be landing artists in their most ideal marketplaces to profit from ticket sales. While ODESZA may be a household name amongst ourselves, they technically qualify as a lesser known act in the big scheme of things, and therefore are the perfect guinea pig for testing this particular feature. Pandora was able to target fans based on their listening habits while streaming, assist in mapping the duo’s first tour, and sell out a majority of stops in just minutes.
Maybe they could have picked a better band since ODESZA could have most definitely sold majority of tickets based off organic popularity, but the platform for promoters and smaller artists is still absolutely there. The technology will only continue to develop from here, as the real race for innovation in the music industry appears to be kicking off.
