The internet is abuzz with Miley Cyrus’ twerking performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. There was crotch grabbing, air humping, booty twerking and an unfavorable latex outfit. The Parents Television Council has issued a strong statement, regarding the innuendo of the show and its inappropriateness for the youth.
“MTV has once again succeeded in marketing sexually charged messages to young children using former child stars and condom commercials — while falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable,” – Parents Television Council Director of Public Policy Dan Isett
In a plot twist true to real life, Billy Ray Cyrus (Miley’s father) is a board member at the Parents Television Council. So far he has yet to comment on the show.
Reddit also discovered that Satirical news site The Onion predicted Miley Cyrus’ descent into “too wild levels” back in 2008. The video talks about her being exploited and compares the situation to other former teen stars like Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan and the Olsen twins. Maybe the cycle for teen star destruction is inevitable.
