We’re halfway through 2020 and we still don’t see an end in sight as to when we can safely party or rave again. We’ve seen interesting variations; drive-in events with assigned dance areas, separated dance spaces in clubs with limited capacity, to even becoming our own version of Bubble Boy. Taking into consideration that some clubs and music venues have closed forever (R.I.P.) and promoters experiencing furlough, it’s clear that this will change the clubbing landscape for a long time, if not forever. But what are we going to do when the world is finally able to move forward? When we can finally be around each other again, and more importantly, do it safely?
One of the businesses trying to find answers is Discotech. Considered to be the OpenTable for night life, the app company was not immune to the affects that Covid has had on our scene. While they experienced exponential growth at the beginning of 2020, it collapsed just within a two week span once Covid started to take affect. They too experienced furloughs and had to completely restructure their model in order to adapt to the changing times. Discotech is a company whose goal is to make it easier for everyone to discover events, follow their favorite artists, reserve tables in VIP, buy tickets, and even land on the guest list for free.
Since their founding in 2013, Discotech has been one of the most popular apps to help us simplify finding the best spots to hit on the weekend. With over one million downloads and a 4.9/5 star rating reviews in the iOS and Google Play Store, Discotech is one of the best free nightlife services out there. The team at Discotech are now trying to find the best way to navigate what the nightlife experience can be moving forward. In their app, they will now offer features such as knowing which venues are officially back open in our cities, use filters for outdoor and feature patios, and even an optional contract tracing feature that will alert us if we may have been exposed at one of their venue partners and recommend testing.
This could be the beginning of finding some sort of foothold in this new landscape. Being able to have this app at our fingertips for when it is safe in our cities to go out again is something that we didn’t realize we needed. Hopefully we can see more of these types of services in the future and see what they are implementing put into use at not just clubs, but raves and festivals too.
