Pasquale Rotella appeared at a pretrial conference in Los Angeles today where the L.A. County District Attorney alleges the founder of Insomniac used more then $2.5 million to pay off and bribe city officials. He was released yesterday on $1.8 million dollar bail.
If convicted on all charges Rotella could serve up to 13 years and 8 months in prison. He is indicted along with five other individuals.
Last year Rotella’s attorney said,
“All transactions between Insomniac and the Coliseum were transparent and approved by the Coliseum General Manager, his staff, and the attorneys representing the Coliseum. Any charges against Mr. Rotella are clearly politically motivated and publicity driven.”
Earlier this month Live Nation was rumored to be purchasing a majority share in Insomniac Events. There’s no word whether that deal has gone through or if these implications will have any impact.
In 2012, Rotella voluntarily surrendered in relation to these charges. Two former Coliseum managers and an executive in another promotion company were also arrested.
Scrutiny for Insomniac and The Coliseum began after the overdose of a 15-year-old girl at Electric Daisy Carnival 2010.
According to ABCnews,
The indictment states that Rotella and his associate paid former Coliseum events manager Todd DeStefano $1.8 million to limit payments due to the Coliseum and to ensure use of the venue for their events.
We will continue to update this post as more information becomes available.
