Mark Farina is a name recognized for its bridging of worlds. This man has been creating one of the most renowned compilation albums in the scene for the past 25 years called Mushroom Jazz.
The Mushroom Jazz volumes, for those of you who are unaware, is a series of collaborative albums released by Mark Farina
Farina started his musical career as a young man in Chicago, exploring a variety of music and eventually creating his own sound that he would famously coin as Mushroom Jazz. It can be best explained as “Acid jazz meets urban beats”.
The combination of two very different genres synchronized so well for Farina that he ascended to various “Top DJ’s in the World” Lists, played hundreds of shows over the course of his career, and has become one of the most highly celebrated artist of his time.
Mushroom Jazz has showcased big names like Pete Rock and J Boogs, but has more recently been incorporating smaller, lesser known acts like QSTN, Ph-Wert, and The Slipmat Brothers.
Over time, it has received immense amounts of praise for being one of the chillest yet moving and up-beat compilations that exist in the underground market today. Mark Farina has got a good ear, and we’re itching for more.
2016 was the last we’ve heard of Mushroom Jazz since it’s release of Volume 9, but Farina is still up and moving with a current U.S. tour. He’ll be hitting sweet spots like Detroit, Miami, Seattle and San Francisco, so if you’re around, we highly suggest checking him out! He’ll be playing timeless Chicago house grooves and, if you’re lucky, may even slip some jazzy bits into the mix.
This is cutting edge music friends, Mark Farina will take you on the smoothest ride known to man, as you listen in awe. Thank you for reading and enjoy!
