When it comes to techno, Paul Kalkbrenner is a world-class act. This Berlin producer has been in the game since 1992, with seven studio albums and having played every stage on earth worth talking about. All of his tracks are crafted to perfection, boasting energetic, euphoric beats of ecstasy. It’s been some time now since Paul Kalkbrenner has released a remix. So, when a legend like himself decides to come out of the woodwork and do so, you know it’s going to be a good one.
Paul Kalkbrenner’s remix of “The Flute Song” is the first single of Kid Simius’s album Planet of the Simius, out now on Jirafa Records. The original track came to fruition during a trip to Columbia when the Spanish artist got inspired by the unique sound of a flute he purchased on the beach. The collaboration between the two came mid-production when Paul Kalkbrenner overheard the song and was instantaneously hooked by the B part. The story goes that he was inspired to remix the song before it was even finished.
“The Flute Song” lends itself to the realm of electronica/downtempo. The synths in the build up are nothing short of mesmerizing, dropping with a gratifying beat that’s rough around the edges. While Paul Kalkbrenner did well to put his mark on the mix, he effortlessly tied in the fundamental element of the original track and allowed it to shine through – the unusual sound of the beach flute.
