Today, Spin Magazine reported that Paul McCartney sought, and is seeking more modern influences on his next album. What kind of influences you might ask? Well, the upbeat stylings of moombahton and the production prowess of Usher to be exact.
McCartney particularly liked ‘Climax,’ and allegedly “came in one day playing some post-Bonde do Role baile funk-moombahton thing, asking, ‘How do we get this kind of energy” said Mark Ronson. Ronson, who recently confirmed that he produced three songs on McCartney’s forthcoming album, told this to Rolling Stone.
These trendy touchstones sound a few generations removed from “classic Paul,” producer Ethan Johns told NME.
Perhaps McCartney wants to be more relevant, however I would bet that this is all just a bi-product of his indescribable and albeit natural forward vision for music. The Beatles were far beyond their time and will forever remain timeless while good taste in music lasts.
Maybe you guys going to Bonnaroo will get a little glimpse of the new Paul?
