My first experience with LA-based producer Le Youth was at Mad Decent Block Party 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona. He quickly caught my attention with his unique way of reworking 90’s and 00’s hits into his set. Since then, Le Youth has been on our radar.
Le Youth’s signature move is bringing a sense of nostalgia to listeners, masterfully sampling older tracks and giving them a modern day “facelift”. His most well known hit, C O O L, is the perfect example of this; sampling R&B singer Cassie’s 2006 smash “Me & U”. Le Youth’s take on “Me & U” has scored him over 40 million Spotify streams.
In September of 2016, he launched his label HOMEWERK, releasing two singles “Me Without You” and “If You’re Leaving”. Both singles have been quite successful, “Me Without You” taking the No. 1 spot on Sirius XM’s Chill playlist for October/November and “If You’re Leaving” gaining him over a million monthly listeners on Spotify, since it’s release.
Le Youth has returned with the release of his third record on HOMEWERK, “Walk Away”. “Walk Away” opens with the sultry vocals of pop/R&B singer, Paula DeAnda. Le Youth heavily samples DeAnda’s 2006 hit, “Walk Away”, but adds his own flair with catchy piano riffs and deep house chords. The track’s upbeat melody serves as the perfect soundtrack to take us into Spring.
