Pham has always leaned more on the soulful / hip-hop side of electronic music, his latest EP entitled Nostalgia Mixtape expands on this notion in-particular. Featuring vocal work on some singles while showcasing others that are pure instrumentals, Pham shows his colors in full force on this EP. “Lightning” has to be my favorite, it’s incorporation of trap hip-hop vocals and brass horn’s deliver something complex, but intriguing. If this is Pham’s return it most certainly is triumphant.
I used to reach to the past a lot, trying to worry about everything until now. This is the word I was looking for a while and just now I can put a finger on what was stuck with me all that time. Realizing that was truly a freeing moment.Nostalgia means so much to me. It’s longing for something that already happened. It’s a bittersweet feeling – the chasm between the past and the present; on one side you have the good memories (the positive impulse), and sometimes you might feel a pull towards these memories, which you can’t do thus it’s more of a negative feedback – that type of nostalgia to me is a fear of moving on. Although we universally agreed on the meaning of ‘nostalgia,’ to me it’s a broad range of colours which I’ve tried to explore on the mixtape.”
